Coaches Training

Our Coaches Clinics offer a unique opportunity for LA-MV PONY Baseball coaches to spend time with some of the best baseball teaching minds in the Bay Area. We highly encourage everyone who is head coaching, assistant coaching, or even just thinking about coaching to attend.

Attention Bronco Coaches and Assistant Coaches: Please attend both the Advanced and the Intermediate Coaches clinics, on Saturday and Sunday, March 17 and 18.

Advanced Coaches Clinic: Bronco to Palamino

Our Bronco, Pony, Colt, and Palamino Coaches and Assistant Coaches Clinic will be held Satuday, March 17, 1:00pm to 2:00pm, at Rosita Field. Please note date and time change. This clinic is being taught by 25-year Stanford Pitching Coach Tom Dunton and former St. Francis Varsity Head Coach Chris Bradford, and covers advanced coaching topics, including how to throw curve balls.

Intermediate Coaches Clinic: Pinto-2 to Bronco

Our Pinto-2, Mustang, and Bronco Coaches and Assistant Coaches Clinic will be held Sunday, March 18, 1:30pm to 5:00pm at Oak Field. Please note date and time change. We will start with an interactive session run by our training partner America's Game Baseball, and De Anza College Pitching Coach Dave Salter. Topics will include:

General Coaching	Pitching
Practice Simulation; Skills and Drills — both offensive and defensive skills covered; Common Mistakes and how to remedy; Interactive Q&A	Managing your pitching staff; Pitch count; Handling trips to the mound; Composure; Q&A.

This year we are delighted to announce a guest speaker: Mike Oakland, St. Francis Varsity Coach Head at 4:30pm.

This clinic is fully “hands on”: bring your glove, cleats, and Advil. Liquid refreshments(water/gatorade) will be provided. Reservations are not necessary, but we would greatly appreciate your RSVP to your Division Director to help us get a head count.

Shetland and Pinto 1 Coaches Clinic

The Shetland and Pinto-1 Coaches Clinic — much better known as the “George & Scott Show” — will be held Saturday, March 3, 10:00am to Noon at Springer Field. This invaluably informative and highly entertaining coaching clinic is run by long time LA-MV coaches Scott Clarke and George Feliz. It is specifically designed to help coaches teach our younger players the fundamentals and fun of baseball. We highly encourage all Shetland and Pinto-1 head and assistant coaches to attend. Please bring your workout clothes and a glove as this is a hands-on session.

Coaches Pitching/Catching Clinic

Player Pitching Clinics

Pitching Clinics are offered for pitchers in all pitching divisions. These clinics are hands-on, provide plenty of individual attention, and are designed to help both the pitchers and their coaches.

Each team can bring five pitchers. Teams will be assigned a one-hour slot. Both players and their coaches should show up 30 minutes early to warm up. Dates for 2007 are forthcoming.  Watch your E-mail or check here for updated information.

Player Hitting Clinics

Batting clinics are offered for teams in the Pony, Bronco, and Mustang-2 divisions:

Mustang-2 Coaches: Please note that your hitting clinic is the same night as our Dining for Dollars at Armadillo Willy's night.

Practice Assistance

We will provide a professional trainer from our training partner, America's Game, for one 90-minute practice for any team in the league. The coaches decide how to best utilize the trainer. Newer coaches may want general assistance in organizing and running a practice. More experienced coaches may want to focus on specific skills, like batting or infielding. Practice will take place at the regular field where the team practices. Scheduling will be coordinated by the LA-MV PONY Training Director.
