Field Maintenance

Sprint Painting

As of 2012 the league has decided to use spray paint for the fields instead of the messy white chalk as in prior years. As a result, it is important that the field is somewhat damp when applying the spray paint; the paint will not adhere/stick to the dirt if dry. Put all empty paint cans back in the shed for later disposal.

Instructions

  1. Water the entire field – do not over water (hoses are in sheds - please uncoil hose prior to attaching to quick couple release).
  2. Fill in any holes around pitcher mound, bases and batting areas (tools in shed); tamp the mound.
  3. Drag the field (however it suits you, just get all areas covered, no specific pattern needed, but in to out preferred. tractors in sheds).
  4. You will now need to lightly water the areas you will be spray painting in the next step (batter’s box and 1B/3B line). This is important as the paint will not stick otherwise. Please put hose away in sheds neatly and hang in sheds on provided hooks.
  5. Fit paint machine with spray can (if there is little to no paint in the shed, please tell a Head Coach or Division Director)
  6. Prepare batter's boxes using the metal outline provided in the sheds. Lay it down, walk on it to make an imprint, and then spray the paint on the outline.
  7. String line from rear point of home plate to outside of 1B all the way to the outfield grass, paint it, repeat for 3B line as well
  8. Paint the on deck circles for each team (about 4 foot diameter circle in front of benches in foul territory)
    • NOTE: Keep to 1 can of paint for batter’s box and 1B/3B lines.
    • NOTE: Put all empty paint cans in a box in the shed.
  9. Pull base plugs and store in shed - Install bases – the tool for cleaning out pegs is in the sheds
  10. Play ball
  11. If you are the last team of the day please put away bases, put pegs back in base holes, drag field, put tools away very tidy and lock up all sheds.
