Umpires

Adult Umpires

If your child plays Bronco Level or above you will see games umpired by adults. Every one of these umpires belongs to an association called the Santa Clara Valley Federation of Umpires (SCVFU). was started in 1960. In this group you will see umpires who have worked Professional, College, Adult, PONY, and Little League games. Some may do just a couple games a year. Others work year round and average 30 to 50 games a month.

With the onset of travel ball, baseball is now played year round in the valley. These umpires also donate some of their money to a very worthwhile and important program called the Hatzell-Lewis Scholarship Fund. Every year LA-MV has been offered funds through this program to help out families in need. With the economy being what it is, you can only imagine the help this has been to our league.

Just remember they have a tough job. Most likely on every decision they make, half of the people will be upset. So unless you are willing to take on the task of learning how to umpire a game, please sit back, relax and enjoy watching your kids play our country's pastime ... baseball!

Youth Umpires

Come check out a Mustang 1, Mustang 2, or Bronco game and you will not only see our youth playing baseball and having a great time, you will also see our 13+ year-old youth umpiring the games. This is a wonderful opportunity for our future leaders to learn responsibility, be around younger kids, and give back to the league. We employ over 60 kids ages 13 - 20 during the season to umpire our baseball games. The youth love making money while the kids playing the game look up to these current and past players. Our umpires go through an extensive classroom training program plus a live on-field session to learn the skill of umpiring and on-field leadership. We create an opportunity for these 8th graders, high school and college students to continue to love baseball while using new skills.

What they are doing is not an easy task. These young adults are serving the league, and filling a void, which very few individuals can or want to fill. They will make errors, but they are doing their best. So next time, before you want to speak out and criticize these Youth Umpires remember, these might be your kids. So treat the youth umpires, like you would want someone else to treat your kids. These are the future leader so sit back, relax and be impressed.
