2014 Grads Moving Up to NCAA Baseball

The High School Class of 2014 was truly exemplary. The 2014’s fielded the most dominant Pony Division All Star team in our league’s history, and most of the players went on to successful high school careers all four years.

We're proud to announce standout alumni from the 2014 class that are now playing in NCAA College Baseball in their freshman year:

Casey Douglas, St. Francis High SchoolCasey is now on scholarship playing for the University of Kansas, an NCAA Division 1 team in the Big 12 conference.  Under Head Coach Ritch Price, Kansas has been a perennial contender in the Big 12 conference. Casey pitched for the St. Francis Lancers all four years of his high school career and finished with a superb 0.46 ERA and 5-0 record in his senior year. 2 time Letter winner in Varsity Basketball & JV Football QB.  He was also the Vice President of the Assoc. Student Body and founded the 6th Man Spirit Crew

Craig Young, Homestead High School – Craig is now playing for the UCLA Bruins, an NCAA Division I team in the Pac-12 Conference. A standout infielder at Homestead, Craig was recognized in multiple years at the all-league level, including All-League MVP in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League (SVCAL). Under Head Coach John Savage, the Bruins are expected to go deep in the NCAA College World Series this year, and are currently ranked 3rd in the nation.

Patrick McMullen, St. Francis High School – Patrick is now playing for the Pt. Loma University Sea Lions, an NCAA Division II team in the PacWest Conference. Patrick was a 4-year player at St. Francis and was an important weapon for their pitching staff. Under Head Coach Joe Schaefer, Point Loma has been on a tear this season with a record of 12-3.

Craig Young and Casey Douglas

Each year, LA-MV selects a small number of graduating seniors for induction into our “Wall of Honor,” recognizing exemplary alumni who led long and distinguished LA-MV careers, played at the highest levels in high school, and who aspire to continue their playing careers at the next level.

Our latest inductees are Casey Douglas (St. Francis), and Craig Young (Homestead). Read more about Casey and Craig, and see the prior honorees at the Wall of Honor page here.

PONY National Scholarship Awarded to LA-MV Alumni

PONY Baseball, Inc., our league’s national governing body, selects former PONY participants each year to receive its prestigious PONY Alumni Scholarship Award. Craig Young, class of 2014, and former player in LA-MV (from Shetland through Colt), was our league’s first recipient of this national honor.

Craig is pictured here with Skip Mueller, head of the LA-MV Alumni Committee and representatives from PONY West Zone at the Rosita Super Regional Tournament in July.
