League-wide General Rules

These “general” rules are designed to help maintain the condition of our playing fields, to help ensure everyone’s safety, and to supplement the League’s “Good Neighbor” Policy.

Enforcing these general rules, at games and practices, is everybody’s responsibility.

Field Maintenance:
See the procedures in Field Maintenance page.

Batting Cages and Pitching Machines:
Batting cages and pitching machines are only to be used under adult supervision. All players must wear helmets while inside the cage. The batting cages are to be locked at all times when not in use. Keep the pitching machines clean, dry, and locked into their frame at all times. Return the machines, electrical cords, and all balls to the storage sheds when use is complete.

Practice Pitching Areas (Bull Pens):
Any bull pen catcher who is in the knee-down or squat position must wear a catcher’s mask and a groin-cup. No batting, bunting, or soft-toss is permitted in the bull pen area — ever!

Soft-Toss:
No hardball soft-toss is permitted against any back-stop, bull pen, batting cage, or any other fence. Wiffle balls are strongly encouraged for soft-toss. Think Safety!

Balls Over Any Fence:
Any ball which goes over a homeowner’s fence shall not be retrieved during a game or a practice. Players or parents may not climb fences. After a game or practice, an adult may request permission of the homeowner at the homeowner’s front-door to retrieve a ball. If permission is denied, or if the homeowner does not respond to the front door, the ball shall not be retrieved. Do not trespass!

Dust Control:
Operate the infield sprinkler system for a minimum of 5 minutes before each drag of the field by a vehicle. If it is dry and windy, also water the field for a few minutes prior to raking the dirt in the infields.

Loud Music and Language:
Boom-Boxes and unsportsman-like language are not permitted at any Los Altos-Mountain View Pony Baseball function, whether a game or a practice.

Smoking and Alcohol:
Smoking and alcohol consumption are prohibited on school grounds. Also, it is discourteous to leave any cigarette butts on sidewalks or in the gutters of streets.

Trash:
Use the provided receptacles for your trash. If full, take your trash home. Please do not litter our schools, parking lots, or our neighborhoods.
